Model RF Obstacles
WhenplanningaEnterasysnetwork,youneedtoconsiderhowthebuildinglayoutandphysical
objectsaffectsignalloss.Walls,windows,anddoorsabsorbRFsignals,anddifferentbuilding
materialshavedifferentattenuationfactors.
YoucanmodelanRFobstacleonyourfloorplanandassigntheobstacletypeandattenuation
factor,oryoucanassignanobstacletypeandattenuationfactortoobjectsinaDWGorDXF
drawing.RASMusesthesevalueswhencalculatingcoverageforthenetwork.
Ifyoudonothaveanimporteddrawing,orifyouareworkingwithaGIForJPEGimage,you
mustcreate
RFobstaclesmanually.IfyouareusinganimportedCADdrawing,youcanconvert
manyoftheobjectsinthedrawingintoRFobstacles.Allobjectssimilarinconstructionmaterial
shouldbeplacedinonelayer.Forexample,ifthedrawingfilehaswallsspreadoutindifferent
layers,but
afterperformingasite‐survey,theywallswerefoundtobesimilarinmaterial
construction,itisbettertoputtheminonelayer.Inthisway,theRFattenuationassignmentcanbe
performedinonestep.
ThissectionshowshowtoselectanddrawobjectsandconvertthemintoRF
obstacles.RASM
preservesthelayersdefinedinaCADdrawing.

TocreateRFobstaclesforallobjectsinalayer:
1. ClickLayersintheOrganizerpaneltobringupalistofthelayersinthedrawing.
2. Right‐click(Macintosh:Control+click)oneof
thelayersintheOrganizerpanel.
3. SelectCreateRFObstaclesunderCreateintheTaskpanel.TheCreateRFObstacledialogbox
appears.
