Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
WEPprovidesabasiclevelofsecurity,preventingunauthorizedaccesstothenetworkand
encryptingdatatransmittedbetweenwirelessclientsandtheaccesspoint.WEPusesstaticshared
keys(fixed‐lengthhexadecimaloralphanumericstrings)thataremanuallydistributedtoall
clientsthatwanttousethenetwork.
WEPisthe
securityprotocolinitiallyspecifiedintheIEEE802.11standardforwireless
communications.Formorerobustwirelesssecurity,theAccessPoint3000providesWi‐Fi
ProtectedAccess(WPA)andAESforimproveddataencryptionanduserauthentication.
SettingupsharedkeysenablesthebasicIEEE802.11WiredEquivalentPrivacy(WEP)onthe
accesspointtopreventunauthorizedaccesstothenetwork.
IfyouchoosetouseWEPsharedkeysinsteadofanopensystem,besuretodefineatleastone
staticWEPkeyforuserauthenticationanddataencryption.Also,besurethatthe WEPshared
keysarethesameforeach
clientinthewirelessnetwork.
