Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting Steps
Checkthefollowingitemsbeforecontactingtechnicalsupport.
1. Ifwirelessclientscannotaccessthenetwork,checkthefollowing:
a. BesuretheaccesspointandthewirelessclientsareconfiguredwiththesameServiceSet
ID(SSID).
b. Ifauthenticationorencryptionareenabled,ensurethatthewirelessclientsareproperly
configuredwiththe
appropriateauthenticationorencryptionkeys.
c. IfauthenticationisbeingperformedthroughaRADIUSserver,ensurethattheclientsare
properlyconfiguredontheRADIUSserver.
d. IfauthenticationisbeingperformedthroughIEEE802.1x,besurethewirelessusershave
installedandproperlyconfigured802.1xclientsoftware.
e. IfMACaddressfilteringisenabled,
besuretheclient’saddressisincludedinthelocal
filteringdatabaseorontheRADIUSserverdatabase.
f. Ifthewirelessclientsareroamingbetweenaccesspoints,makesurethatalltheaccess
pointsandwirelessdevicesintheExtendedServiceSet(ESS)areconfiguredtothesame
SSID,andauthentication
method.
2. IftheaccesspointcannotbeconfiguredusingTelnet,aWebbrowser,orSNMPsoftware:
a. BesuretohaveconfiguredtheaccesspointwithavalidIPaddress,subnetmaskand
defaultgateway.
b. IfVLANsareenabledontheaccesspoint,themanagementstationshouldbeconfigured
tosendtaggedframes
withaVLANIDthatmatchestheaccesspoint’snativeVLAN
(defaultVLAN 1,seepage682 **).However,tomanagetheaccesspointfromawireless
client,theAPManagementFiltershouldbedisabled(page652**).
c. Checkthatyouhaveavalidnetworkconnectiontotheaccesspointand
thattheEthernet
portorthewirelessinterfacethatyouareusinghasnotbeendisabled.
d. IfyouareconnectingtotheaccesspointthroughthewiredEthernetinterface,checkthe
networkcablingbetweenthemanagementstationandtheaccesspoint.Ifyouare
connectingtotheaccesspointfroma
wirelessclient,ensurethatyouhaveavalid
connectiontotheaccesspoint.
e. IfyoucannotconnectusingTelnet,youmayhaveexceededthemaximumnumberof
concurrentTelnetsessionspermitted(i.e,foursessions).Tryconnectingagainatalater
time.
