VLAN Commands
TheaccesspointcanemployVLANtaggingsupporttocontrolaccesstonetworkresourcesand
increasesecurity.VLANsseparatetrafficpassingbetweentheaccesspoint,associatedclients,and
thewirednetwork.YoucanassignaVLANtoeachoftheaccesspointsradiointerfaces,a
managementVLANfortheaccesspoint,
andaVLANtoupto64associatedclients.
EachwirelessclientassociatedtotheaccesspointisassignedtothenativeVLANID(anumber
between1and4095)fortheradiointerface.IfIEEE802.1xisbeingusedtoauthenticatewireless
clients,specificVLANIDscanbeconfigured
ontheRADIUSservertobeassignedtoeachclient.
UsingIEEE802.1xandacentralRADIUSserver,upto64VLANIDscanbemappedtospecific
wirelessclients.Theaccesspointallowstraffictagged withassignedVLANIDsorthenative
VLANIDtoaccessclientsassociatedonthe
radiointerface.
WhenVLANsupportisenabled,theaccesspointtagstrafficpassingtothewirednetworkwith
theappropriateVLANID,eitheranassignedclientVLANID,nativeVLANID,orthe
managementVLANID.Trafficreceivedfromthewirednetworkmustalsobetaggedwithoneof
theseknown
VLANIDs.ReceivedtrafficthathasanunknownVLANIDornoVLANtagis
dropped.
WhenVLANsupportisdisabled,theaccesspointdoesnottagtrafficpassingtothewired
networkandignorestheVLANtagsonanyreceivedframes.

Note: When VLANs are enabled, the access point’s Ethernet port drops all received traffic that does
not include a VLAN tag. To maintain network connectivity to the access point and wireless clients, be
sure that the access point is connected to a device port that supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tags.
