Syntax
ping <host_name | ip_address>
•host_nameisthealiasofthehost.
•ip_addressistheIPaddressofthehost.

•Usethepingcommandtoseeifanothersiteonthenetworkcanbereached.
•Thefollowingaresomeresultsofthepingcommand:
‐ Normalresponse‐Thenormalresponseoccursinonetotenseconds,dependingon
networktraffic.
‐ Destinationdoesnotrespond‐Ifthehostdoesnot
respond,a“timeout”appearsinten
seconds.
‐ Destinationunreachable‐Thegatewayforthisdestinationindicatesthatthedestination
isunreachable.
‐ Networkorhostunreachable‐Thegatewayfoundnocorrespondingentryintheroute
table.
•Pressthe<Esc>keytostopthepingcommand.
