Understanding Command Modes
ThecommandsetisdividedintoExecandConfigurationclasses.Execcommandsgenerally
displayinformationonsystemstatusorclearstatisticalcounters.Configurationcommands,onthe
otherhand,modifyinterfaceparametersorenablecertainfunctions.Theseclassesarefurther
dividedintodifferentmodes.Availablecommandsdependontheselectedmode.You
canalways
enteraquestionmark?attheprompttodisplayalistofthecommandsavailableforthecurrent
mode.ThecommandclassesandassociatedmodesaredisplayedinTable A1.
Exec Commands
Whenyouopenanewconsolesessionontheaccesspoint,thesystementersExeccommand
mode.Onlyalimitednumberofthecommandsareavailableinthismode.Youcanaccessallother
commandsonlyfromtheconfigurationmode.ToaccessExecmode,openanewconsolesession
withthe
username“admin”andthepassword“password”.Thecommandpromptdisplaysas
“RoamAbout3000#”forExe cmode.
Configuration Commands
Configurationcommandsareusedtomodifyaccesspointsettings.Thesecommandsmodifythe
runningconfigurationandaresavedinmemory.
Theconfigurationcommandsareorganizedintothreedifferentmodes:
•GlobalConfiguration
Thesecommandsmodifythesystemlevelconfiguration,andincludecommandssuchas
usernameandpassword.
•InterfaceEthernetConfigurat ion
Thesecommands
modifytheEthernetportconfiguration,andincludecommandsuchasdns
andip.
•InterfaceWirelessConfiguration
Thesecommandsmodifythewirelessportconfiguration,andincludecommandsuchasssid
andauthentication.
TheInterfaceWirelessconfigurationalsoincludesasubmodeforconfiguringuptoseven
VirtualAccessPoints(VAPs)oneach
oftheradiointerfaces.
