Determining the Antenna Locations

•LengthofcableconnectingtheantennatotheAP.

network,thedistancebetweenthebuildings.
Obstructionsinthesignalpath.
•Inawirelessinfrastructurenetwork,theareaaroundtheantennawhereclientsneedto
communicatewiththeAP.
Typically,theRoamAboutdirectionalandomnidirectionalantennasareinstalledonrooftops.
Thedirectionalantennacanalsobeinstalledonthesideof
abuilding.Thefollowingsections
describethefactorsthataffecttherangeoftheantennas.
Distances with Cables
Table 12liststhedistancesfortheRBT4102,RBT4102EU,andtheRBT4102‐BG.Thedistances
includethecablesatbothends.Forevery6dBiofcableloss,dividethedistancebytwo.Forevery
10dBiofcableloss,dividethedistancebythree.

Be sure to calculate the cable loss at both ends, and include the pigtails.
The distance miles listed are approximate.
If the RBT-4102-EU uses one 8 dBi (RBTES-BG-M08M) to one or more 14 dBi sector
antenna(s), you will get approximately half the distances shown in Tab le 1 -2 using the 2.4 GHz
band.
