Configuring Broadcast Settings
Applying DHCP/BOOTP Relay
DHCP/BOOTPrelayfunctionalityisappliedwiththehelpofIPbroadcastforwarding.Atypical
situationoccurswhenahostrequestsanIPaddresswithnoDHCPserverlocatedonthatseg m ent.
AroutingmodulecanforwardtheDHCPrequesttoaserverlocatedonanothernetworkif:
•IPforwardprotocolis
enabledforUDPasdescribedinipforwardprotocolonpage 1620,
and
•TheaddressoftheDHCPserverisconfiguredasahelperaddressonthereceivinginterfaceof
theroutingmoduleforwardingtherequest,asdescribediniphelperaddressonpage 1621.
TheDHCP/BOOTPrelayfunction
willdetecttheDHCPrequestandmakethenecessarychanges
totheheader,replacingthedestinationaddresswiththeaddressoftheserver,andthesourcewith
itsownaddress,andsendittotheserver.Whentheresponsecomesfromtheserver,theDHCP/
BOOTPrelayfunctionsendsitto
thehost.
