Configuring Broadcast Settings
Applying DHCP/BOOTP Relay
DHCP/BOOTPrelayfunctionalityisappliedwiththehelpofIPbroadcastforwarding.Atypical
situationoccurswhenahostrequestsanIPaddresswithnoDHCPserverlocatedonthatseg m ent.
AroutingmodulecanforwardtheDHCPrequesttoaserverlocatedonanothernetworkif:
•IPforward‐protocolis
enabledforUDPasdescribedin“ipforward‐protocol”onpage 16‐20,
and
•TheaddressoftheDHCPserverisconfiguredasahelperaddressonthereceivinginterfaceof
theroutingmoduleforwardingtherequest,asdescribedin“iphelper‐address”onpage 16‐21.
TheDHCP/BOOTPrelayfunction
willdetecttheDHCPrequestandmakethenecessarychanges
totheheader,replacingthedestinationaddresswiththeaddressoftheserver,andthesourcewith
itsownaddress,andsendittotheserver.Whentheresponsecomesfromtheserver,theDHCP/
BOOTPrelayfunctionsendsitto
thehost.
