Connecting UTP Cables to Mini-GBICs
TheMGBIC‐02hasa1000BASE‐TRJ45copper‐wireportconnectionwithautomatic
crossoverdetection.Thisporthasinternalcrossoversandsupportsautomatic‐polarity
sensing.
Automatic‐polaritysensingeliminatestheneedforacrossovercable,regardlessifthe
connectionistoanothernetworkdevice(suchasabridge,repeater,or
router)ora
workstation.
ToconnectandverifyUTPcableconnectionstoaMini‐GBICRJ45port,refertoFigure 3‐9
andproceedasfollows:
1. Removetheprotectivecovers(notshown)fromtheRJ45portoftheMini‐GBIC.
2. Ensurethatthedeviceconnectedtotheotherendofthesegmentis
poweredON.
3. PlugthetwistedpairsegmentintotheMGBIC‐02RJ45connector.
Note: The MGBIC-02 port on the 7G-6MGBIC or 7G-6MGBIC-A supports Category 5
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling with an impedance between 85 and 111 ohms.
Category 3 cable is not supported.
Note: Leave the protective covers in place when the connectors are not in use to prevent
contamination.
