Completing the Installation of a New System
InanewsystemofDFEmodules,oneoftheinstalledDFEmoduleswillbecomethemanagement
moduleonchassispowerup,andallDFEmoduleswillautomaticallybesettothefactorydefault
values.AcompletelistofthefactorydefaultvaluesareprovidedinChapter3oftheEnterasys
MatrixDFEDiamond/PlatinumSeriesConfigurationGuide.
AfterinstallingallDFEmodulesintothehostchassisandmakingtheconnectionstothenetwork,
proceedtothefollowingFirstTimeLogInUsingaConsolePortConnectionproceduretoaccess
themodulemanagementstartupscreenfromyourPC,terminal,ormodemconnection.
First-Time Log-In Using a Console Port Connection
StarttheCommandLineInterface(CLI)fromthemodule’slocalconsoleportasfollows:
1. ConnectaterminaltothelocalconsoleportasdescribedinConnectingtoCOMPortfor
LocalManagementonpage 3 20.Thestartupscreen,Figure 318,displays.
2. Attheloginprompt,enteroneofthefollowing
defaultusernames:
roforReadOnlyaccess,
rwforReadWriteaccess,or
adminforSuperUseraccess.(ThisaccesslevelallowsReadWriteaccesstoallmodifiable
parameters,includinguseraccounts.)
3. PressENTER.
4. ThePasswordpromptdisplays.LeavethisstringblankandpressENTER.Themodule
informationandMatrix
promptdisplaysasshowninFigure 318.
TheDFEmoduleisnowreadytobeconfigured.ForinformationaboutsettingtheIPaddressand
configuringTelnetsettingsforremoteaccesstoDFEmanagement,refertoChapter3inthe
EnterasysMatrixDFEDiamond/PlatinumSeriesConfigurationGuide.TheCLIcommandsenable
you
toinitiallysetupandperformmoreinvolvedmanagementconfigurations.

Note: This procedure applies only to initial log-in, and to logging in to a device not yet configured
with administratively-supplied user and password settings.
By default, the Matrix DFE Series device is configured with three user login accounts: ro for Read-
Only access; rw for Read-Write access; and admin for super-user access to all modifiable
parameters. The default password is set to blank (carriage return). For information on changing
these default passwords, refer to Chapter 3 in the
Enterasys Matrix DFE-Diamond/Platinum Series
Configuration Guide.
