Backplane Connections and Installation Rules
ThefollowingsectionsdescribetheFTM1andFTM2backplaneconnections,andthehardware
configurationruleswheninstallingfirst(6x1xx),second(6x2xx),third(6x3xx),andfourth(7xxxxx)
generationmodulesintothesameMatrixE7chassis.
FTM1 and FTM2 Connectivity
TheMatrix E7(6C107)chassishasbackplanesreferredtoasFTM1andFTM2.The7xxxxxDFE
modulesuseFTM2forhighspeedcommunicationtoeachotherandoperateasoneswitchingunit
withasingleIPaddress.ThetrafficthroughthesemodulesdoesnotconnecttoFTM1except
throughanFTMbridging
modulesuchasthe7H438225,7H438249,7H438349,orthe
7H438549.
The7H438249hasaconnectiontobothFTM1andFTM2backplanes,whichenablesthe
7H438249toswitchframesbetweenthetwobackplanesandallmodulesinthe6C107chassis.
However,theolderfirst(6x1xx),second
(6x2xx),andthird(6x3xx)generationmodulesarestill
managedusingtheirownLocalManagementandarenotsubjecttomanagementbytheDFE
modulemanagemententity.
TheMatrix N1(7C111),Matrix N3(7C103)andMatrix N7(7C107)chassishaveonlyFTM2
connectionsandsupportonlyDFEmodules.TheMatrix N5(7C105P)hasFTM2connections
and
alsosupportsPoEcompliantDFEmodules.
Module Placement and Rules
DependingonthemodulesbeinginstalledintheMatrixE7chassisandtohelpensureproper
operation,considerthefollowingexamplesandrulesformoduleplacementinthechassis.
Figure 35showsfiveexamplesofchassismoduleplacement.Theseexamplesaredescribedbelow
alongwiththeapplicablemodu leplacementrule.
The
Matrix N1,Matrix N3,Matrix N5,andMatrix N7chassissupportonlyDFESeriesmodules
andtherearenoparticularrulesforinstallingmodules.
