theirPowerClassifications.EachN‐POE PSMcansupplyupto1200Wattsofpower.You
candeterminethenumberofpowersuppliesneededbyreferringtoTable 1‐1andadding
upthemaximumpowerrequirementaccording
tothePowerClassificationrating
(1 through3)ofeachPD.Keepinmindthateachclassificationrepresentsarangeof
power,soyourmaximumcalculationrepresentsaworst‐casepowerconsumption,butthe
actualpowerconsumptioncouldbeless.

PoE‐compliantmodule(suchastheEnterasysNetworks7H4385‐49)installedinanN5
chassisandconnectedtosixdevicesrepresentedbythenumberedboxes(1 through6).In
thisexample,assumebox1 representsanon‐PoEcompliantdeviceandboxes2through6
representPoE‐compliantPDs.The
PoEpowersystemprovides48Vdcandpowersupply
statusinformation(indicatesifpowersuppliesareokay)throughtheN5chassis
backplanetothePoEswitchmodule.
