Chassis Cooling System
TheN5chassisfeaturesaremovablefour‐fanassemblythatisaccessiblefromtherearof
thechassis.Thisunitishotswappable,whichallowsittobereplacedwithoutpowering
downthechassis.ALANVIEWLEDlocatedonthefrontofthechassisindicatesthe
operatingstatusofthefan
assembly(normal/fault/notinstalled).RefertoChapter 2fora
fulldescriptionofthefanassemblyLEDstates.
Chassis Power Systems
TheN5chassissupportstwo7C205‐1powersuppliesthatresideinthelowersectionof
thechassis,inslotslabeledPS1andPS2.Thesecondpowersupplyprovidesredundancy
andloadsharing.ThesepowersuppliesoperateindependentlyfromtheoptionalPoE
powersupplymodulesdescribedin“POEPowerSupply
System”onpage 1‐5.The
optionalPoEpowersupplymodulesprovidepowertosupportthePoweroverEthernet
featureinPoE‐compliantDFEmodulesinstalledinthechassis.
N5 Chassis Power Supply System
The7C205‐1isa1200Wattpowersupply,whichhasonefront‐panelACinputpower
connector.ThisallowstheconnectionofeachpowersupplytoaseparatelyfusedAC
powersource.Onepowercordisshippedwiththe7C205‐1.Thetypeofpowercord
shippedwiththeunit
iscountry‐dependent.
Whentwopowersuppliesareinstalled,eachpowersupplyiscapableofloadsharing50%
(+/‐5%)ofthepowerina7C105‐Pchassispowerload.Thisnotonlyprovides
redundancy,italsoextendsthelifeofthepowersupplies.Ifonepowersupplyfails,the
otherpowersupplysupportstheentirepowerloadofthechassiswithoutinterruptionto
networktraffic.Referto“InstallationSiteGuidelines”onpage 2‐2forpoweroutlet
requirements.
Note: The N5 chassis supports the DFE (Distributed Forwarding Engine) 7xxxxx or 4xxxxx
series modules, but it does not support the older 6x1xx, 6x2xx, and 6x3xx series of
modules. Do not mix 7xxxxx and 4xxxxx series modules in the same chassis.
