Switch Ports
Matrixdeviceshavefixedfrontpanelswitchportsand,dependingonthemodel,optional
expansionmoduleslots.The numberingschemeusedtoidentifytheswitch portsonthefront
panelandtheexpansionmodule(s)installedisinterface‐typedependentand,inchassis‐based
systems,isalsodependentuponthechassisin
whichthemodule(s)areinstalled.
Designating Ports in the CLI
Commandsrequiringaport‐stringparameterusethefollowingsyntaxtodesignate porttype,
location,andportnumber.
Port String Syntax for Matrix DFE Series Modules
Usethissyntaxtospecifyaportstring:
port type.slot location.port number
Whereporttypecanbe:
• fefor100‐MbpsEthernet
• gefor1‐GbpsEthernet
• tgfor10‐GbpsEthernet(MatrixDFE‐Platinum 7K4290‐02modulesonly)
• comforCOM(console)port(s)
• hostforhostport
• vlanforvlaninterfaces
• lagforIEEE802.3linkaggregationports

SlotlocationformodulesinstalledinaMatrixN7orE7chassiscanbe:
0through7,with0designatingvirtualsystemports(lag,vlan,host),and1designatingtheleft‐
mostmoduleslotinthechassis.
SlotlocationformodulesinstalledinaMatrix
N3chassiscanbe:
0through3,with0designatingvirtualsystemports(lag,vlan,host),and1designatingthelowest
moduleslotinthechassis.
Portnumbercanbe:
Anyportnumberinaslotlocation.Thehighestvalidportnumberisdependentonthenumberof
portsina
slotlocationandtheporttype.
Forexample:
Ifamoduleinslot1has48,100MbpsFastEthernetfrontpanelports,andanuplinkinterfacewith
6Mini‐GBICs,therangeofportnumberdesignationsusedintheCLIcommandwouldbe:
• fe.1.1throughfe.1.48forthe48100
MbpsFastEthernetfrontpanelports,and
• ge.1.1throughge.1.6forthe6Mini‐GBICuplinkports.
Iftheuplinkhasthesametype(fe)portsasthefrontpanel,thenumberingcontinueswiththeport
numberfe.1.49.
