Setting New System Passwords
1. TosetsystempasswordsforthedefaultAdmin,ReadWriteorReadOnlyuseraccounts,from
the
supromptenter:
set password {admin | rw | ro}
2. PressENTER.Whenprompted,enterapasswordasshownintheexamplebelow.Passwords
arecasesensitiveandmustbeaminimumof8charactersandamaximumof40characters.

ThisexampleshowshowanadministratorwouldchangetheReadWritepasswordfromthe
systemdefault(blankstring):
TheMatrixDFESeriesorNSAdevicestorespasswordsinthestartupconfigurationfile.Ifyou
copyaconfigurationfilefromoneMatrixDFESeriesorNSAdevicetoanother,the
passwordsin
thefilewillautomaticallyapplytothenewdevice.Whenyouactivateanewpasswordbycopying
thesetpasswordcommandtotheactiveconfiguration,theMatrixDFESeriesorNSAdevice
hidesthepasswordtextintheconfigurationfiletopreventotherswhoaccessthisfilefrom
viewingthepassword.
Creating and Managing User Accounts
MultiusermodepasswordsecurityemploysindividualuseraccountstograntCLIpermissions
onacasebycasebasis—andrequiresthateachuserloginusingusernameandpassword.The
MatrixDFESeriesorNSAdevicesupportsupto16concurrentuseraccounts,includingthe
adminaccount,whichcannot
bedisabledordeleted.
AdministratorswithSuperUseraccesscanusethefollowingcommandstocreate,disable,
removeand/orverifyindividualuseraccounts.
Creating a New Login User Account
Fromthesuprompt,usethefollowingcommandtocreateanewuseraccountwithaccess
privileges:
set system login username {super-user | read-write | read-only} enable
Applying Access Privileges to an Existing User Account
Fromthesuprompt,usethefollowingcommandtoapplyaccessprivilegestoanexistingaccount:
set system login username {super-user | read-write | read-only}
Matrix(su)->set password rw
Please enter new password: ********
Please re-enter new password: ********
Password changed.

Caution: Test new passwords before saving the active configuration to the startup configuration
file. To keep your passwords secure, the Matrix DFE Series or N-SA device does not have a
command for displaying passwords.
If you forget a Read-Write or Read-Only password, you can remove it by entering the following
command at the su prompt:
clear system login {rw
| ro}
If you forget the Admin password, it can be reset by toggling dip switch 8 on the device as described
in the Matrix DFE Series or N-SA Installation Guide for your product.
