Bydefault,theMatrixDFESeriesorN‐SAdeviceoperatesinsingle‐usermodewithpassword
accessenabledandnopasswordsdefined.Itprovidesthreeaccessmodes,oraccount“names.”
TheseareAdminorSuper‐User(
su),Read‐Write(rw),andRead‐Only(ro).Formoreinformation
aboutthesedefaultaccessaccountsandtheirassociatedprivileges,referbacktoTable 2‐1on
page 2‐2.Thissectionprovidesinformationaboutthefollowingsystempasswordanduser
accountmanagementtasksthatcanbecompletedbyanadministratorwithSuperUseraccess.
• SettingNewSystemPasswords
• CreatingandManagingUserAccounts
• SettingPasswordPolicies,includingageouttime,thenumberofpreviously‐usedpasswords
checkedforduplicationwhenuserscreatenewpasswords,andthenumberoffailedlogin
attemptsallowedbeforeuserlockout.
Onceconfigured,passwordscanbechangedwiththesetpasswordcommand.Administrators
withSuperUseraccesscanchangeanypasswordonthesystemasdescribedinthefollowing
section.IndividualuserswithRead‐Writeaccesscanchangetheirownpasswords,asdescribedon
page3‐5,butcannotenterormodifyothersystempasswords.Onlyuserswithadmin(
su)access
privilegescanchangeanypasswordonthesystem.
