Setting an IP Address and Basic System Information
UsetheproceduresinthissectiontosetanIPaddressforthesystemandtosetbasicsystem
information,includingthedateandtimethesystemwilldisplay,wherethesystemislocatedand
asystemcontactpersonwithinyourorganization.
Setting and Verifying a System IP Address
UsethefollowingcommandstosetandverifytheIPaddress:
1. SetthesystemIPaddress,optionalsubnetmask,andoptionaldefaultgateway:
set ip address ip-address [mask ip-mask] [gateway ip-gateway]
Ifnotspecified,ipmaskwillbesettothenaturalmaskoftheipaddressandipgatewaywillbe
settotheipaddress.
2. (Optional)VerifythesystemIPaddress:
show ip address
Setting the Time, Date, and System Information
Usethefollowingcommandstosetthesystemtime,name,location,andcontact:
1. Setthesystemtimeinamonth,day,year,and/ora24hourformat:
set time [mm/dd/yyyy] [hh:mm:ss]
2. Setasystemname:
set system name [string]
3. Setasystemlocation:
set system location [string]
4. Setacontactname(thepersontocontactregardingthisdevice):
set system contact [string]
Setting System Passwords
Bydefault,theMatrixDFESeriesorNSAdeviceprovidesthreeaccessmodes,oraccount
“names”.TheseareAdminorSuperUser(su),ReadWrite(rw ),andReadOnly(ro).Atstartup,
nopasswordsaredefined.AdministratorswithSuperUseraccesscansetanewsystempassword
withthefollowingcommands.
1. Tosetadefaultsystempassword,fromthesupromptenter:
set password {admin|rw |ro}
2. PressENTER.Whenprompted,enterapasswordasshownintheexamplebelow.Passwords
arecasesensitiveandmustbeaminimumof8charactersandamaximumof40characters.
Note: Some of the commands in these procedures accept a string value. String values can be up
to a maximum of 255 characters in length, including blank spaces. Surround strings that contain
blanks with quotation marks (Example: “string with internal blanks”).
