Basic VRRP Configuration
Figure 91showsabasicVRRPconfigurationwithasinglevirtualrouter.RoutersR1andR2are
bothconfiguredwithonevirtualrouter(
VRID1).RouterR1servesasthemasterandRouterR2
servesasthebackup.Thefourendhostsareconfiguredtouse10.0.0.1/16asthedefaultroute. IP
address10.0.0.1/16isassociatedwithvirtualrouterID(
VRID)1.

1. In Global Configuration mode:
Create a routing interface for Router 1 on VLAN

interface vlan 1
2. In Interface Configuration mode:
Set and enable IP address 10.0.0.1
255.255.255.0 on this router and VLAN.
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
no shutdown
3. In Global Configuration mode:
Enable VRRP configuration mode on this router.
