Disabling or Re-enabling Proxy ARP on an Interface
AvariationoftheARPprotocol,proxyARPallowstheroutingmoduletosendanARPresponse
onbehalfofanendnodetotherequestinghost.ProxyARPcanlessenbandwidthuseonslow
speedWANlinks.Itisenabledbydefault.
Frominterfaceconfigurationmode,usethiscommandto
disableproxyARPonaninterface:

Assigning a MAC Address to an Interface
Bydefault,everyroutinginterfaceusesthesameMACaddress. Whennecessary,youcanassign
differentMACaddresstodifferentinterfaces,aslongasyouarecarefultoselectaMACaddress
thatwillnotconflictwithotherdevicesontheVLAN.
Frominterfaceconfigurationmode,usethiscommandtoassign
aMACaddressonaninterface.
ip mac-address address
Usethe“no”formofthiscommandtoremoveaMACaddressfromaninterface:
no ip mac-address address
Changing the ARP Timeout
TheMatrixDFESeriesorNSAdevicecansupportupto2000outstandingunresolvedARP
entries.Bydefault,theseentrieswillstayintheARPtablefor14,400secondsbeforeexpiring.
Fromglobalconfigurationmode,usethiscommandtochangetheARPti meoutvalue:
arp timeout seconds
Validvaluesare0‐65535seconds.Avalueof0specifiesthatARPentrieswillneverbeaged
out.
Clearing the ARP Cache
FromprivilegedEXECmode,usethiscommandtodeleteallnonstatic(dynamic)entriesfromthe
ARPtable:
