Connecting High-Speed Stacking Cables
Thestackofswitchescanbeconnectedinaringordaisychaintopology.Inaring
topologyalltheswitchesareconnected.Theonlydifferenceinthecableconnectionsina
daisychaintopologyisthatonecableisnotinstalled.Uptosevenoreightswitchescanbe
stacked
togetherandconnectedbyhigh‐speedstackingcables.Youcanaddswitchesand
reachuptoamaximumof384Ethernetportsperstack.Thehigh‐speedstackingcables
allowtheentirestacktooperatewithasingleIPaddress.
Thehigh‐speedstackingcablesareoptionalitemsandmustbe
orderedseparately.The
C3G124‐24andC3G124‐48supportthreetypesofSecureStackstackingcables:
•C2CAB‐SHORTcabletoconnecttwoadjacentswitchesinthestack.Ifthestackis
inaconfigurationwheretheadjacentswitchesaretoofarapartfortheSHORT
cables,theLONGcablecanbeused
fortheconnections.
•C2CAB‐LONGcabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthe
stack.YouneedonlyoneC2CAB‐LONGcableperstack.
•C2CAB‐5Mcabletoconnectfromthetopswitchtothebottomswitchinthestack
whenthesetwoswitchesarephysicallylocated
inseparatemountingracksand
requirealongercablereach.
Figure 3‐9showsanexampleofafour‐highstackconnectedinaring topology.AllSTACK
DOWNandSTACKUPconnectorsareusedintheinstallation.Thehigh‐speedstacking
cableconnectionsarefromtheSTACKDOWNconnectorofone
switchtotheSTACKUP
connectorofthenextswitchupinthestack.Ahigh‐speedstackingcableconnectionfrom
theSTACKDOWNconnectoroftheswitchatthetopofthestacktotheSTACKUP
connectoratthebottomofthestackcompletestheringconnection.Ina
daisychain
topology,onecableconnectionisnotmade.
