Spanguardisdesignedtodisable,orlockoutanʺedgeʺportwhenanunexpectedBPDUis
received.Theportcanbeconfiguredtobere‐enabledafterasettimeperiod,oronlyaftermanual
intervention.
Aportcanbedefinedasanedge(user)portusingthesetspantree
adminedgecommand,
describedin“setspantreeadminedge”onpage 6‐38.Aportdesignatedasanedgeportis
expectedtobeconnectedtoaworkstationorotherend‐usertypeofdevice,andnottoanother
switchinthenetwork.WhenSpanguardisenabled,ifanon‐loopbackBPDU
isreceivedonan
edgeport,theSpanningTreestateofthatportwillbechangedtoʺblockingʺandwillnolonger
forwardtraffic.Theportwillremaindisableduntiltheamountoftimedefinedbysetspantree
enable|disable Enablesordisablesthespanguardfunction.
