Configuring WDS

About WDS
WDSservicesrepresentagroupofAPsorganizedintoahierarchyforpurposesofprovidinga
wirelessdistributionservice.Thistypeofserviceisinessenceawirelesstrunkingservicerather
thanaservicethatprovidesaccessforstations.Assuch,thistypeofservicecannothavepolicies
attachedtoit.

Simple WDS Configuration
Inatypicalconfiguration,theAPsareconnectedtoanEthernetnetwork,whichprovides
connectivitytoclients.
However,whenanAPisins
talledinaremotelocationand cannotbewiredtothedistribution
system,anintermediate APisconnectedtothedistributionsystemthroughtheEthernetlink.This
intermediateAPforwardsandreceivestheusertrafficfromtheremoteAPoveraradiolink.
Theint
ermediateAPthatisconnectedtothedistributionsystemviatheEthernetnetworkiscalled
theRootAP,andtheAPthatisremotelylocatediscalledtheSatelliteAP.
