IP Address Assignment and Acquisition
TheAPsareshippedfromthefactorywithadefaultIPaddress—192.168.1.20.ThedefaultIP
addresssimplifiesthefirst‐timeIPaddressconfigurationprocessforAPs.IftheAPfailstoacquire
anIPaddressthroughDHCP,itreturnstoitsdefaultIPaddress.Thisbehaviorensuresthatonly
oneAPatati
mecanusethedefaultIPaddressonasubnet.
WhentheAPispow
ered‐on,thefollowingoccurs:
1. TheAPatt
emptstoreachtheDHCPserveronthenetworktoacquiretheIPaddress.IftheAP
issuccessfulinreachingtheDHCPserver,theDHCPserverassignsanIPaddresstotheAP.
2. IftheDHCPassignmentisnotsuccessfulinthefi
rst60seconds,theAPreturnstoitsdefault
IPaddress.
3. TheAPwa
itsfor30secondsindefaultIPaddressmodebeforeagainattemptingtoacquirean
IPaddressfromtheDHCPserver.
4. Theprocessre
peatsitselfuntiltheDHCPassignmentissuccessful,oruntilanadministrator
assignstheAPanIPaddress,usingstaticconfiguration.
Notes: DCHP assignment is the default method for the AP configuration. DHCP assignment is part
of the initialization process.
You can establish a SSH session with the AP during the time window of 30 seconds when the AP
return
s to its default IP address mode. If a static IP address is assigned during this period, you must
reboot the AP for the configuration to take effect.
Discovering DHCP Assigned IP Addresses
ToaccessanAP’smanagementinterface,youmustknowtheIPaddressoftheAP.Bydefaultthe
APtriestoobtainitsIPaddressfromaDHCPserver.TodeterminetheIPaddressesassignedto
theAPswithinadomain,Ent erasy sprovidestheAPDiscoveryToolfordownload.
TheAPDis
coveryToolisaJava‐basedapplicationdesignedtohelpkeeptrackofthedeployed
APsandretrievetheirassignedIPaddresses.The APDiscoveryTooldiscoversandliststheAPsin
thecurrentmulticastdomain.TheAPDiscoveryToolcanberunonanyplatformwithJava
RuntimeEnvironment(J
RE6update18andhigher)installed.
TodiscoverDHC
PassignedIPaddresses:
1. DownloadtheAPDis
coveryTool(A pDiscovery.jar)fromtheEnterasy ssupportsite,inthe
Downloadssection,underFirmware&Software,andsavelocally.
Note: The workstation must be in the same multicast network domain as the deployed APs.
2. Openacommandprompt.NavigatetothedirectorytowhichyousavedtheApDiscovery.jar
file.
3. Runthef
ollowingcommand:
java -jar ApDiscovery.jar
TheAPDiscoveryToolscansthemulticastdomainanddisplaystheresultsofthesearch,as
shownbelow.
