Important: SPECTRUM no longer uses a default polling interval
of 60 seconds for this feature if the port's
Polling_Interval is 0 (zero). If zero, the status of
the port is not polled.
- Wide Area Link Monitoring: The statuses of ports connected to a
WA_Link model are automatically polled, and this is controlled by the
Polling_Status and Polling_Interval of the WA_Link model. If the
WA_Link model's Polling_Status is TRUE, and its Polling_Interval is
non-zero, SPECTRUM will automatically make the pipes connected to
a WA_Link “live.” This allows the user to visually verify that
SPECTRUM is, in fact, monitoring the status of the connected ports. In
previous versions of SPECTRUM, the user was not aware that this
polling occurred, unless they read the documentation. Users still have
full control of the pipe, and can turn it off and on after the connection
is made. SPECTRUM no longer uses the Polling_Interval of the
WA_Link model to determine how often to poll the status of the
connected ports. It now uses each individual port model's
Polling_Interval, which most likely was inherited from the device
model, but may be customized on a per-port basis.
- New fault handling functionality was added to the WA_Link model to
allow more user control and flexibility. A new attribute called
LinkFaultDisposition (0x129e2) has been created in the WA_Link
model type, which supports three different modes: 0 =
BothPortsAndLink, 1 = PortsOnly, 2 = LinkOnly. When a wide area
connection goes down, alarms could be generated on ports and/or
the link model. If this attribute is set to BothPortsAndLink, then
alarms will be generated on both the connected ports and the link
model. If this attribute is set to PortsOnly, then only the connected
ports will be alarmed, and the WA_Link will be suppressed. If this
attribute is set to LinkOnly, then only the WA_Link model will be
alarmed, and the ports will be suppressed. The new attribute is
accessible via the WA_Link model's new Fault Management GIB, or
using the Global Attribute Editor. The default setting for
LinkFaultDisposition is BothPortsAndLink (0), which preserves pre-6.6
alarm behavior.
- Port Criticality: SPECTRUM users can now assign a relative
“importance” to port models since ports now have the Criticality
(0x1290c) attribute. The Criticality of a port is not currently used in
any Impact Severity calculations, but users can display the Criticality
of a port in the Alarm View to allow prioritization of port alarms.
Additionally, the Criticality attribute has been added to the port
