Link Aggregation
LinkAggregationisamethodofgroupingmultiplephysicalportsonanetworkdevice
intoonelogicallinkaccordingtotheIEEE802.3ad2002standard.BecauseLink
Aggregationisstandardsbased,itpermitsautomaticconfigurationwithmanual
overrides(ifapplicable),andcanoperateon10Mbps,100Mbps,or1000Mbps
Ethernet
fullduplexports.So,youcancombineagroupoffive100Mbpsportsinalogicallink
(trunk)thatfunctionsasasingle500Mbpsport.Aslongasthe2G407252acceptswhich
portsareinthetrunk,therearenoproblemswithlooping,and theSpanning
Treecantreat
thistrunkasasingleport.
Innormalusage(andtypicalimplementations)thereisnoneedtoenable/disableportsfor
LinkAggregation.Thedefaultvalueswillresultinthemaximumnumberofaggregations
possible.Iftheswitchisplacedinaconfigurationwithitspeersnotrunningthe
protocol,
noaggregationswillbeformedandthe2G407252willfunctionnormally(thatis,
SpanningTreewillblockredundantpaths).
