Supplementary information for the ENGL MIDI Preamp 580's owner's manual
Supplementary information on the Remote Control Panel, RCP
(starting page 39):
On the RCP, WRITE and COPY operations are carried out immediately after you
activate the WRITE/COPY button. "Pro" appears just once for a brief moment in
the display of the preamp to let you know that the given WRITE or COPY
operation is being carried out.
When you want to copy MIDI presets from one bank to another, after you
change banks on the RCP you must first select a new MIDI preset via UP or DOWN
before the preset can be copied. It is not necessary to do this when you are
carrying out the same operation on the actual preamp. On the amp you can copy
a preset to the same preset number of the other bank without further ado.
Comments on Realtime Lock (page 40):
When "Realtime Lock" is enabled, all control functions on the RCP (UP, DOWN,
MANUAL, BANK, SHADOW, WRITE/COPY) are disabled. If you want to transfer
and store settings to the selected MIDI preset via "Transmit", you must first press
the "Realtime Unlock" button.
A tip from the designer:
The option of storing settings on a PC in a file affords you greater convenience
and flexibility. You can, for example, even select shadow presets and store their
settings (that means old overwritten settings) elsewhere, for example, on the
hard disk of your PC.
Beyond that, you can take at advantage of this option to copy a shadow preset
to a MIDI preset (select the desired MIDI preset, open the stored file, "Transmit",
"WRITE/COPY"). Once you activate "Transmit", the WRITE operation is started
automatically and the setting is sent and stored in the selected MIDI preset.

If a bank is set to OMNI and messages are sent in from an external device,
these messages are routed through via the same MIDI channel.
If a bank is set to OMNI and presets are changed internally - in other words,
on the preamp or RCP - these program change commands are always sent via
MIDI channel 1.
Controller 7 (main volume) commands are also sent in Manual mode as well as
to the factory presets.
