Troubleshooting
The ENGL logo doesn't run through the display after you switch the preamp on.
--> Is the preamp connected to the mains power supply?
--> Is the preamp connected to the Com port of a PC and has the
Remote Control Software been launched? Try switching the preamp off,
starting the software on the PC and switching the preamp on again.
--> Is the preamp's mains fuse intact?.
The preamp fails to respond when you change settings.
--> Powerful static charges, strong radio signals or mains voltage spikes
can affect the preamp, setting it to an undefined status. The three onboard
microcontrollers operate in handshake mode, which is particularly susceptible
to outside influences. For example, powerful external interference could
interrupt the program routine of one of the three processors, throwing the
entire system out of whack. In that case, you have but one choice—a cold start.
Simply switch the preamp off and on again to reset it.
The display of the preamp reads hot.
--> That tells you the internal operating temperature of the preamp climbed to
over 50°C. This means that the optoelectronic components may no longer
function absolutely flawlessly. You may hear this because it can have a slight
but perceptible effect on the preamp's tone. Check if all the ventilation slots
on the side and rear panels of the preamp are free from obstruction and that
they allow for sufficient air circulation.
The preamp doesn't respond to your attempts to switch it via MIDI foot board.
--> Is the MIDI foot board connected to MIDI IN jack 45?
--> Is the MIDI cord you are using defective?
--> Is one of the two banks of the preamp set to the MIDI channel
on which the MIDI foot board is sending program change commands?
You could set one bank to OMNI reception to check if the preamp
is receiving data.
The preamp doesn't respond when you switch it via the Remote
Control Panel on the PC.
--> Is the interface cord you are using defective.
--> Are the interface cord connecting the preamp
and the PC wired so that it matches the two ports (perhaps you're
using the wrong cord).
--> Did you power the preamp up before you launched the remote control
software on? Switch the preamp off and on again.
--> Did you configure the right Com port on the RCP software. Check if the
entry in the "Options" menu is the same as the PC Com port that you are using.
If not, select the right port.
