Firewood that is not dry enough to burn is the cause of most complaints about wood fires. The
complaintsusuallyinvolvealackofheatanddirtydoorglass.

• firewoodboughtfromadealerisrarelydryenoughtoburn,soitisadvisabletobuythewood

• dryinghappensfasterinwarmsummerweatherthaninwinterweather
• smallpiecesdrymorequicklythanlargepieces
• splitpiecesdrymorequicklythanunsplitrounds
• softwoodstakelesstimetodrythanhardwoods
• hardwoods like gums, Manuka and ironbark can take one, or even two years to dry fully,
especiallyifthepiecesarebig
