Embedded Root Switch in Tape Libraries
Another root switch application is to embed a switch attached to multiple tape drives and tape library
controllers into a system.
Benefits include:
• Delivers maximum performance and RAS capabilities possible.
• Improved isolation and diagnostics down to the drive level. Enables tape drive/port level fault
isolation repair without taking the entire tape library offline.
• Up to a 350% performance improvement over shared loop-based architectures.
Figure 1-3 depicts a sample tape library consolidation configuration.
