SECTION2–INSTALLATION
1.General
A.PriortoInstallation
(1)Uponreceiptoftheterminal,thecomponentsshouldbeconrmedpresentagainstthe
enclosedpartslistandinspectedforanydamage.
(2)TheUAVsatcomsystem’senvironmentalparametersshouldbereviewedtoensurethatthe
intendedusageiswithinitsenvelope.
(3)AnacceptableantennamountingpointshouldbeidentiedandanyUAVspecicmounting
partsprocuredorfabricated.
(4)AweightdistributionanalysisshouldbeperformedtodemonstratesafeoperationoftheUAV
subject tothemountingconstraintsoutlinedinthefollowingsections.
(5)AnelectricalloadanalysisshouldbeperformedtoensurethattheUAVcansafelycarrythe
additionalelectricalload.Thisisamaximumof65W.
(6)
Theterminalshouldbepoweredfromafuseddistributionboardwithvoltageof28VDC(27to
30VDC).Thefuseprotectingtheterminalsupplycircuitshouldbea4AFastActingtype,witha
minimuminterruptionratingof1000A.ArecommendedmodelisLittelfuse0297004.WXNV
whichcanbeusedinconjunctionwiththeassociatedin-lineholderLittelfuse0FHM0001ZXJ.
(7)Thereshouldbeapowerisolationswitchthatcanbeoperatedwithoutapproachingwithin
3.517ft(1.07m)oftheantenna.
(8)SafetyprecautionsshouldbeobservedduringinstallationandUAVmaintenance.
(9)Integrationwiththeavionicsystemsshouldbesuchthatfailureofterminalsfunctionshould
havenoeffectontheUAV’soperationalcapability,safetyoryingoperator’sworkload.
2.MechanicalInstallation
A.AntennaMounting
(1)Thesafetydistancebetweenoperatorandantennais3.517ft(1.07m).
(2)TheantennashouldbemountedsothatitisinahorizontalplanewhentheUAVisying
straightandlevel.RefertoFigure5forantennadimensions.
(3)Theantennashouldbepositionedontheuppersurfaceofthefuselage,nearthecentre-line
oftheUAVsothatithasanunobstructedviewofelevationsabove5°forallazimuths.The
connectiveperformancefor elevationsbelow20°willbedegraded.
(4)TheantennashouldnotadverselyaffectthecontrolsurfacesoftheUAV.
(5)
Separationresultingingreaterthan42dBisolationshouldbeprovidedbetweentheantenna
andanyotherGPSantennasontheUAVat1559to1605MHzand1626.5to1675.0MHz
(Satcomband),32 inchistypicallyrequired.IfGLONASSisbeingused,theseparationbetween
theantennaandtheGLONASSantennashouldbesufcienttoprovide50dBisolation
betweenthemat1559to1610MHzand1626.5to1675.0MHz(Satcomband),83inch
istypicallyrequired.
(6)GNSSantennasontheUAVshouldbecompliantonDO-229Dorlater.
