Tank blanketing is the process of covering the surface
of a liquid stored in a vessel with a gas, usually
nitrogen and of maintaining a slightly positive pressure
in an enclosed storage tank. Tank blanketing prevents
a stored liquid from vaporizing into the atmosphere,
reduces liquid combustibility and prevents oxidation
or contamination of the liquid by reducing its exposure
to air. This process is used in various products, such
as adhesives, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fertilizers,
fuels, inks and food additives.
Type T205B balanced tank blanketing regulator
(Figure 1) is a direct-operated regulator with fully
balanced plug design to reduce inlet pressure
sensitivity and with a large diaphragm to accurately
control tank pressure at low pressure settings on tank
blanketing systems. It uses a control line to sense the
pressure in an enclosed storage tank. Type T205B
maintains a slightly positive pressure and thereby
reduces the possibility of tank wall collapse during
pump out operation.
