IMPORTANT NOTES • Avoid installing this unit in places exposed to direct sunlight or close to heat radiating appliances such as electric heaters, on top of other stereo equipment that radiates too much heat, places lacking ventilation or dusty areas, places subject to constant vibration and/ or humid or moist areas. • Operate controls and switches as described in the manual. • Before turning ‘On’ the power, make certain that power cord is properly installed.
PREPARATION FOR USE UNPACKING AND SET UP • This system consists of the following components: 1.) Tuner/Amp/CD Player (main unit), 2.) 2 Sound Cylinder Speakers, 3.) Powered Subwoofer unit, subwoofer connection cable, and Remote Control. Carefully remove all the components from the display carton and verify that you have all the necessary components before you dispose of the display carton. • Remove all packing materials from the individual components.
• The main unit is shipped with a “dummy CD” display card in the CD player. This “dummy CD” card must be removed before you can use the CD player. Refer to the “PLAYING COMPACT DISCS” instructions on Page 25. • The main unit has a sliding stabilizer tab on the bottom panel. POWER SOURCE The main unit and subwoofer of this system are designed to operate on 120V AC 60Hz house current only. Connecting this system to any other power source may cause damage to the system and such damage is not covered by your warranty. NOTE: The units have polarized AC plugs with one wide blade and one narrow blade. The plugs will only fit into matching polarized AC outlets. This is a safety feature to reduce the possibility of electric shock.
SPEAKER CONNECTIONS Sound Cylinder Speakers Connect the two Sound Cylinder speakers to the “L” and “R” speaker jacks on the back of the main unit. Make sure that the speaker plugs are fully inserted into the speaker jacks. If the plugs are loose the connection may be intermittent. 7 ES3_ib032103.
Subwoofer 1.) Connect one end of the black subwoofer speaker cable to the input jack on the back of the subwoofer, and connect the other end of the cable to the subwoofer output jack on the back of the main unit. 2.) Set the Subwoofer Main Power switch, located on the back of the subwoofer, to the ‘ON’position. Note: The Subwoofer Main Power switch should be left in the ‘ON” position at all times.
POSITIONING THE SPEAKERS For the most pleasing sound effects you should place the subwoofer speaker approximately mid-way between the two Sound Cylinder speakers. The Sound Cylinder speakers can be positioned close to the main unit or as far away as the speaker cables will allow. OR 9 ES3_ib032103.
AUXILIARY SOURCE CONNECTIONS You can listen to the sound from external audio sources through the speakers of this system. Connect the Aux/Line/Audio Output Jacks of the external audio source to the Aux/Line Input Jacks on the back panel of this system. Note: Connection cables are not included. R MODEL NO. PART NO. INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES 1.) Press down on the locking tab and remove the battery door. 2.) Insert two “AAA” batteries (not included) in the compartment. Follow the polarity markings engraved inside the compartment. If the batteries are inserted incorrectly the remote control will not work. 3.) Replace the battery door. Notes: Use a well-known brand of alkaline batteries for longest life and best performance.
INSTALLING THE CLOCK AND TUNER MEMORY BACK UP BATTERIES This system includes a battery back up circuit for the clock and preset tuner memories. The clock and tuner preset memory battery back up compartment is located on the back panel of the main unit. 1.) Press upward on the locking tab and remove the battery door. 2.) Insert two “AAA” batteries (not included) in the compartment. Follow the polarity markings engraved inside the compartment.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS • Make sure the Subwoofer and Sound Cylinder Speakers are properly connected to the main unit. • Make sure that the Main POWER switch on the back of the Subwoofer is ‘ON’. • Make sure that the POWER button on the front panel of the Subwoofer is ‘On’. STANDBY LED indicator is ‘Off’. • Make sure that you have installed the batteries in the remote control, and the back up batteries in the clock and tuner preset memory battery compartment.
4.) Press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP or DOWN buttons on the top panel of the main unit or on the remote control to set the display to the correct minutes. 5.) Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button once more. The time display stops flashing and the clock begins to run. Note: You must press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the time display within 8 seconds after you press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button, otherwise the digits will stop flashing and the time cannot be adjusted.
LISTENING TO THE RADIO 1.) Press the POWER/STANDBY button on the main unit or the remote control. The main display turns on. 2.) If necessary, press the TUNER/BAND button on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control to select the Tuner function. The display will show an AM or FM station frequency. To select a different band, press the TUNER/BAND button again. 3.
ANTENNA INFORMATION FM Make sure the FM lead wire antenna is unwound and extended to its full length. It may be necessary to vary the direction of this wire antenna until you find the position that provides the best reception for your favorite FM stations. IF AM reception is unsatisfactory, you may have to turn the main unit slightly until you find the position that provides the best reception. 22 ES3_ib032103.
PRE-SETTING STATIONS IN THE TUNER MEMORY This system includes a 32 station preset memory. You can store up to 20 FM stations and 12 AM stations in the tuner memory for immediate recall. The procedure for storing stations in memory is as follows: 1.) Follow step 3 under LISTENING TO THE RADIO in page 19 to select the first station you wish to memorize. Example FM 103.50 MHz. 2.
RECALLING PRESET STATIONS Turn the system ‘On’and select the desired band. Press the PRESET UP/REPREAT button on the front panel or the remote control repeatedly to scroll through the preset memories until the display shows the desired station. CHANGING PRESET STATIONS To change any preset station memory select the desired band and tune to the new station you wish to memorize. Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button and then press the PRESET UP/REPEAT button to display the memory number you wish to change.
PLAYING COMPACT DISCS Notes: A.) You must remove the ‘dummy CD’display card from the CD player before loading your own CDs. B.) Do not place anything directly in front of the system that might interfere with the CD door as it is opening. 1.) Press the POWER/STANDBY button to turn the system ‘On’. 2.) Press the CD button on the top panel of the main unit or the remote controls to select the CD function. 3.

SKIP/SEARCH CONTROLS ( / ) To skip to higher or lower numbered tracks during playback repeatedly press the SKIP/SEARCH controls ( / ) on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control until the desired track number appears in the display. Playback will begin on the desired track. To perform high speed search within a track to locate a specific musical passage depress and hold the SKIP/SEARCH controls ( / ) on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control.
All Tracks Repeat Load the disc as usual and wait until the total playing time and track numbers appear on the display. Press the PRESET UP/REPEAT button twice. The REPEAT indicator remains ‘On’. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playback. The entire disc will be repeated continuously. To cancel Repeat Playback continue pressing the PRESET UP/ REPEAT button until the REPEAT indicator disappears. Repeat is also canceled by opening the CD Door or switching to Tuner function.
RANDOM PLAYBACK This feature allows you to play all the tracks on a disc in random order. Load the disc as usual and wait until the display shows the total playing time and number of tracks. Press the RANDOM button on the remote control - there is no RANDOM button on the main unit. The RANDOM indicator appears in the display. Then press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playback. The tracks will be played in random order.
PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK This system has a 16 track programmable memory. You can program up to 16 tracks on a disc to play back in any desired order. Note: You cannot program the player while a disc is playing. You must press the STOP button first to stop playback before beginning the programming steps below. 1.) Load your disc as usual and wait until the display shows the total playing time and number of tracks. 2.) Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button on the front panel or the remote control.
After you have programmed up to 16 tracks, press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin programmed playback. The MEMORY indicator remains in the display and the tracks you selected will be played in the desired order. After the last programmed track has played the player stops, but the MEMORY indicator remains in the display and the system remains in the programmed playback mode. If you press the PLAY/PAUSE button the programmed sequence will play again.
OTHER FUNCTIONS MUTE Button To temporarily shut off the sound from the speakers press the MUTE button on the front panel or the remote control. The display will show “VOL 0” for a few seconds to indicate that the Mute function is ‘On’. Press the MUTE button again to cancel Mute and restore the sound. The display will briefly show “VOL ON” to indicate that Mute function is ‘Off’. ON/OFF TIMER This system includes a programmable On/Off timer function.
To Set The ‘OFF’ Time 6.) Press the MODE button on the front panel or the remote control repeatedly until the “TIMER OFF” indicator is flashing in the display. 7.) Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button on the front panel or remote control. The Hour digits begin flashing. 8.) Press the SKIP/SEARCH controls ( / ) on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control to set the display to the desired turn off hour, AM or PM. 9.) Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button on the front panel or remote control.
To Deactivate The Timer 1.) Press the MODE button on the front panel or the remote control repeatedly until the “TIMER” indicator is flashing and the “ON” indicator remains ‘On’. 2.) Press the TIMER button on the front panel. Both the “TIMER” and “ON” indicators will flash together. This indicates that the Timer On time is deactivated. 3.) Press the MODE button on the front panel or the remote control repeatedly until the “TIMER” indicator is flashing and the “OFF” indicator remains ‘On’. 4.
MODE BUTTON Normally the display shows the correct time in the STANDBY (Power Off) mode, the radio frequency in the TUNER mode, and the CD track and time information in the CD mode. You can press the MODE button repeatedly to show the following information on the display: STANDBY (Power Off) Mode: Correct Time TIMER ON Time TIMER OFF Time Correct Time. TUNER Mode: Radio Frequency Correct Time TIMER ON Time TIMER OFF Time ime Radio Frequency.
SLEEP TIMER This system includes a programmable Sleep Timer that allows you to fall asleep to between 10 and 90 minutes of music and then shuts the power ‘Off’automatically. To operate the sleep timer: 1.) Turn the system ‘On’and operate either the TUNER or CD function as usual. 2.) Adjust the VOLUME control to the desired level. Remember that the level you select for the sleep to music function is the same level you will hear when the timer turns the system on in the morning. 3.
CARE AND MAINYENANCE COMPACT DISC CARE • To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges. • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s recorded surface with a soft cloth.Unlike conventional records, compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles. Wipe in a straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc.
