PREPARATION FOR USE UNPACKING AND SET UP • This system consists of the following components: Tuner/CD Player unit, Amplifier/Subwoofer unit, 2 “Thinovation™ ” Flat Panel Speakers, and Remote Control. Carefully remove all the components from the display carton and verify that you have all the necessary components before you dispose of the display carton. • Remove all packing materials from the individual components. Remove any descriptive labels that may be attached to the front panel of the main unit.
POWER SOURCE This system is designed to operate on 120V AC 60Hz house current only. Connecting this system to any other power source may cause damage to the system and such damage is not covered by your warranty. NOTE: The system has polarized AC plug with one wide blade and one narrow blade. The plug will only fit into matching polarized AC outlets. This is a safety feature to reduce the possibility of electric shock.
BATTERY BACK UP This system includes a battery back up circuit that will maintain the Tuner preset station memories and the correct time in the event of a power interruption. The battery back up circuit requires 4 “AAA” batteries, not included. 1.) The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the Tuner/CD Player unit. Turn the Tuner/CD Player unit upside down. NOTE: Place the unit on a soft surface such as a towel to avoid scratching the finish on the top of the cabinet. 2.
SYSTEM CONNECTION Place the Tuner/CD Player unit on top of the Amplifier/Subwoofer unit. Note that there is a multi-pin ribbon cable permanently attached to the back of the Tuner/CD Player unit. The multi-pin plug at the end of this ribbon cable must be connected to the multi-pin socket on the back of the Amplifier/Subwoofer unit. SPEAKER CONNECTIONS Connect the two “Thinovation™ ” Flat Panel speakers to the color-coded “L” and “R” speaker jacks on the back of the Amplifier/Subwoofer unit.
AUXILIARY SOURCE CONNECTIONS You can listen to the sound from external audio sources through the speakers of this system. Connect the Aux/Line/Audio Output Jacks of the external audio source to the AUX Input Jacks on the back panel of this system. Note: Connection cables are not included. From External Audio Source Examples of audio sources that can be connected to this system are: Cassette Player, Mini Disc Player, the sound from your TV, VCR, DVD player, etc.
INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES 1.) Slide the door in the direction of the arrow. 2.) Insert two “AAA” batteries in the compartment. Follow the polarity markings engraved inside the compartment. If the batteries are inserted incorrectly the remote control will not work. 3.) Replace the battery door. Notes: Use a well-known brand of alkaline batteries for longest life and best performance. When the remote operation becomes intermittent replace both batteries at the same time.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS • Make sure the Tuner/CD Player unit is connected to the Amplifier/ Subwoofer unit with the built in ribbon cable. • Make sure that the 2 “Thinovation™ ” Flat Panel speakers are connected to the Amplifier/Subwoofer unit. • Make sure that the Main Power switch on the back of the Amplifier/ Subwoofer unit is ‘On’. • Make sure that you have installed the batteries in the remote control, and the back up batteries in the Tuner/CD Player battery compartment.
SETTING THE CLOCK When the system is connected to the AC outlet for the first time the STANDBY LED indicator on the front panel glows red and “0:00” appears on the display. This is your indication that the time display is incorrect and needs to be reset. 1.) Press the STANDBY/ON button on the front panel or remote control to turn the system ‘On’. The STANDBY LED goes off and the CD display comes on. After a few seconds the display will show “no dISC”. 2.
6.) Press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP or DOWN buttons on the front panel of the main unit or on the remote control to set the display to the correct Hour, AM or PM. 7.) Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ. button again. The Minute digits will begin flashing. 8.) Press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP or DOWN buttons on the front panel of the main unit or on the remote control to set the display to the correct Minute. 9.) Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ. button once more.
MAIN VOLUME AND VARIABLE BASS VOLUME CONTROLS Volume Adjustments Press the MAIN VOLUME + or – buttons on the front panel or the remote control to increase or decrease the volume. The volume level indicator appears in the main display. The range is from “00 db” (Minimum) to “80 db” (Maximum). The system remembers the volume level when the power is switched ‘Off’and returns to the same level when the power is switched ‘On’again.
LISTENING TO THE RADIO 1.) Press the STANDBY/ON button on the main unit or the remote control. The main display turns on. 2.) If necessary, press the TUNER button on the front panel of the main unit or the CD/TUNER button on the remote control to select the Tuner function. The display will show an AM or FM station frequency. To select a different band, press the STOP/BAND button. 3.
ANTENNA INFORMATION FM Make sure the FM lead wire antenna is unwound and extended to its full length. It may be necessary to vary the direction of this wire antenna until you find the position that provides the best reception for your favorite FM stations. FM lead wire antenna ON OFF AUX L R SPEAKERS AM The AM ferrite bar antenna is inside the main unit. IF AM reception is unsatisfactory, you may have to turn the main unit slightly until you find the position that provides the best reception.
PRE-SETTING STATIONS IN THE TUNER MEMORY This system includes a 20 station preset memory. You can store up to 10 FM stations and 10 AM stations in the tuner memory for immediate recall. The procedure for storing stations in memory is as follows: 1.) Follow step 3 under “LISTENING TO THE RADIO” above to select the first station you wish to memorize. Example: FM 103.5 MHz. 2.) W h e n t h e d e s i r e d s t a t i o n appears on the display press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ.
RECALLING PRESET STATIONS Turn the system ‘On’and select the desired band. Press the REPEAT/PRESET button repeatedly to scroll through the preset memories until the display shows the desired station. CHANGING PRESET STATIONS To change any preset station memory select the desired band and tune to the new station you wish to memorize. Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ. button and then press the REPEAT/PRESET button to display the memory number you wish to change. Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ.
PLAYING COMPACT DISCS IMPORTANT: This CD player can play normal CDs plus CD Recordable (CD-R) and CD Rewriteable (CD-RW) discs. However the playability of CD-R and CD-RW discs may be affected by the type of software that was used in ‘ripping’the tracks from the original discs and ‘burning’the tracks onto the blank media. Playability may also be affected by the quality and condition of the blank media you use for recording. 100% compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
5.) Close the CD door. The disc will spin and zeros will flash in the track number and time display. Within a few seconds the disc will stop spinning and the display will show the total playing time and total tracks on the disc. Note: If the disc is inserted upside down or if the disc is badly scratched and unreadable, playback will not be possible. In this case the main display will show “no dISC”. Remove the disc and re insert it properly, or try another disc. 6.
PAUSE CONTROL To pause momentarily during CD playback press the PLAY/PAUSE button on the front panel of the main unit or the remote control again. The sound stops and the elapsed time display flashes but the disc continues to spin. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button once more to cancel Pause mode and resume playback. The elapsed time display stops flashing.
REPEAT PLAYBACK You can program the player to continuously repeat a single track or the entire disc. The Repeat function can be activated while a disc is playing or while the disc is stopped. One Track Repeat Press the SKIP/SEARCH CONTROLS ( / ) on the front panel of the main unit or the remote control until the desired track number appears in the display, then press the REPEAT/PRESET button once. The REPEAT indicator flashes in the display.
INTRO SCAN PLAYBACK (Remote Control Only) This feature allows you to play just the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc. This may be useful when you are trying to locate a specific song but you do not remember the title. Load the disc as usual and wait until the display shows the total playing time and number of tracks. Press the INTRO button on the remote control - there is no INTRO button on the main unit. The INTRO indicator will appear in the display.
PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK This system has a 20 track programmable memory. You can program up to 20 tracks on a disc to play back in any desired order. Note: You cannot program the player while a disc is playing. You must press the STOP button first to stop playback before beginning the programming steps below. 1.) Load your disc as usual and wait until the display shows the total playing time and number of tracks. 2.) Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ. button on the front panel or the remote control.
After you have programmed up to 20 tracks, press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin programmed playback. The MEMORY indicator remains in the display and the tracks you selected will be played in the desired order. After the last programmed track has played the player stops, the MEMORY indicator disappears, and the display again shows the total tracks and playing time on the disc. However the program sequence remains in the memory. • To repeat the program sequence press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ.
OTHER FUNCTIONS MUTE Button (Remote Control Only) To temporarily shut off the sound from the speakers press the MUTE button on the remote control. The MUTE indicator will appear in the display and the sound will stop. Press the MUTE button again to cancel Mute and restore the sound. The MUTE indicator will disappear from the display.
4.) Press the SKIP/SEARCH CONTROLS ( / ) on the front panel of the main unit or the remote control to set the display to the desired turn on minute. 5.) Press the MEMORY/TIME ADJ. button once more to enter the turn on time in the memory. After a few seconds the TIMER display stops flashing and remains ‘On’and the display returns to the correct time, the Tuner display, or the CD display. At the selected ‘On’time the system will turn on automatically to the last function selected, either Tuner or CD.
LISTENING TO AUXILIARY SOUND SOURCES (Main Unit Only) 1.) Connect the Audio Output jacks of your auxiliary sound source (TV, VCR, DVD Player, Cassette Deck, Mini Disc player, etc., etc,,) to the Aux Input jacks on the back of the Amplifier/Subwoofer unit. The connection cables are not included. 2.) Press the STANDBY/ON button on the front panel or remote control to turn this system ‘On’. 3.) Press the AUX button on the front panel to select the Auxiliary Source function.
SLEEP TIMER (Front Panel Only) This system includes a programmable Sleep Timer that allows you to fall asleep to between 10 and 90 minutes of music and then shuts the power ‘Off’automatically. To Operate The Sleep Timer: 1.) Turn the system ‘On’and operate either the Tuner or CD function as usual. 2.) Adjust the MAIN VOLUME and VARIABLE BASS VOLUME level controls to the desired level.
RESET BUTTON This unit includes a special protective device to prevent permanent damage to the internal computer in the event of a sudden power surge. If the system does not respond to any commands from the remote control, or the controls on the main unit, you may have experienced a power surge that triggered the internal computer to shut down automatically. If this occurs, use a toothpick, straightened paper clip, or similar object to depress and hold the RESET button (on back panel) for few seconds.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE COMPACT DISC CARE • To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges. • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s recorded surface with a soft cloth.Unlike conventional records, compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles. Wipe in a straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc.
LIMITED WARRANTY Emerson Radio Corp. warrants manufacturing defects in original material, including original parts and workmanship, under normal use and conditions, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of original purchase in the U.S. With your dated proof of purchase, we will provide repair service at no charge for labor and parts at an authorized Depot Repair Facility, or replace the product in our discretion.
