ControlWave Micro Instruction Manual (CI-ControlWave Micro)
3-54 I/O Modules Revised Jun-2013
refreshes every second, unless a secondary master (such as a hand-
held device) is communicating on the loop.
Multi-drop HART communication with up to five HART
Transmitters
In this mode, you can communicate with up to five HART
transmitters multi-dropped to the specified input channel. In the I/O
Configurator within ControlWave Designer software, you must
configure the channel as HART Multidrop and you access
individual variables from each transmitter through its own dedicated
HART function block – one separate function block for each
transmitter on the channel. With 1200 baud communications to the
transmitter, module data refreshes once every second per transmitter
on the channel, unless a secondary master (such as a hand-held
device) is communicating on the loop. For example, if there are
three multi-dropped transmitters on the channel, data updates
to/from a transmitter occur once every three seconds. Similarly, with
five multi-dropped transmitters, data updates to/from a transmitter
occur once every five seconds. To ensure proper communication
between the transmitter and its corresponding function block, you
must configure each HART function block with the unique tag name
for the transmitter it references.
Notes:
For detailed information on HART communications including
configuration and wiring, visit the HART Communication
Foundation website at: http://www.hartcomm2.org.
The HART/BTI module does not support Burst mode. Do not
attempt to configure a HART device in burst mode. If a HART
device is in burst mode, use a hand-held communicator to turn off
burst mode.
A ControlWave Micro / EFM equipped with this module is
considered to be a HART host (primary master) interface with a
Class 1 conformance classification, and supports most Universal and
some Common Practice commands. The supported commands
conform to HART Universal Command Specification Revision 5.1
and Common Practice Command Specification Revision 7, (HCF
SPEC 127 & 151).
For detailed information on configuring function blocks, see the
online help in ControlWave Designer.
You can install this module in any available I/O slot within the
ControlWave Micro or ControlWave EFM (up to a maximum of two
HART/BTI modules).
The HART/BTI module is not compatible with the ControlWave
Micro I/O expansion rack.
