3.16 Non-isolated HART
®
/BTI Interface Module
Non-isolated Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART)/Bristol
Transmitters (BT) Interface modules provide eight channels
individually configurable for HART, BTI, or 4–20 mA inputs.
Additionally, you can configure two of the eight channels for 4–20 mA
outputs.
There are several ways you can use the individual channels on the
module:
Point-to-Point BSAP communication with a Bristol Transmitter
In this mode, the specified input channel receives data from a single
Bristol 3508 or 3808 transmitter using the BSAP communication
protocol. In the I/O Configurator within ControlWave Designer
software, you must configure the channel as BTI and you access
individual variables from the transmitter through either the LBTI
function block or the XMTR function block. With 1200 baud
communications to the transmitter, module data refreshes every
second. Additionally, you can separately monitor the primary
variable (usually pressure or temperature) at rates up to once every
100 milliseconds. To do this, use a ControlWave variable to access
the 4-20 mA current loop by assigning it directly in software to the
I/O pin for the channel.
Point-to-Point HART communication with a HART Transmitter
In this mode, the specified input channel receives data from a single
HART transmitter. In the I/O Configurator within ControlWave
Designer software, you must configure the channel as Analog Input
and you access individual variables from the transmitter through the
HART function block. With 1200 baud communications to the
transmitter, module data refreshes every second, unless a secondary
master (such as a hand-held device) is communicating on the loop.
Additionally, you can separately monitor the primary variable
(usually pressure or temperature) at rates up to once every 100
milliseconds. To do this, use a ControlWave variable to access the
4-20 mA current loop by assigning it directly in software to the I/O
pin for the channel.
Point-to-Point HART output communication with single HART
digital valve controller, or other HART device that is not a
transmitter (Channel 1 or 2 ONLY)
In this mode, you configure either channel 1 or 2 as an output. In the
I/O Configurator within ControlWave Designer software, you must
configure the channel as Analog Output and you access individual
variables from the HART device through the HART function block.
With 1200 baud communications to the transmitter, module data
