1. MPM‐100GeneralDescription
TheMPM‐100isastand‐alonemonitorforcommunicationandpowerindustryapplications.WhatsetsAlbér
monitorsapartfromothersistheirabilitytoprovideearlywarningofbatteryproblems.Themonitorchecks
thestateofhealthofeachcellbyperformingaproactiveresistancetest,areliablepredictorof
battery
performance.Inaddition,toindicateimmediatebatteryhealthandmonitorstatusofagivenlocation,the
systemreportstoaCentralcomputer(agenericPC)displayingstatusscreens.
Usingpollinganddatatransferalgorithms,theBatteryMonitorDataManagerprogramletsaCentral
computermanageover1000monitorsystems.
Dataisstoredinthecomputerdatabaseforlateranalysisand
reporting.Atanytime,servicepersonnelmaycallabatterylocationfromtheCentralcomputeroraremote
location(suchasfromhome),ordirectlyconnecttothemonitorwithoutlosingcontactwiththecomputer.
TheDataManagerstring
andmonitorstatusindicatorsmakecentralbatterymonitoringeasy.Termssuchas
Discharging,AlarmorWarningforstringstatusorActiveformonitorstatusquicklysummarizeevents.
ConditionsreportedtotheCentralcomputeraredisplayedasalist,toeasilyidentifytroublespots.Thesystem
alsofeaturesseveralmethodsofautomated
reportingofalarmoccurrences,suchascontactingkeypersonnel
viaapager,emailorfax.
Flexibilitywasamajordesignconsideration.Becausethemonitorsarestand‐aloneunitswithnoexternal
computerneeded,aprimaryprotocolusingModbusASCIIwasselectedtoletyouincorporatethemonitor
intolarge‐scale
facilitymonitors.Thisallowsthird‐partyinterfacestoaccessallthestand‐alonefeaturesofthe
monitor,yetleavestheadvancedfeaturesoftheDataManagerremotecommunicationsoftwareavailablefor
servicepersonnel.
1.1. Normal Operating Mode
Innormalmode,thesystemscansallparametersinonetofiveseconds,dependingontheconfiguration.As
readingsaretaken,theyarecomparedtouser‐programmedalarmlevels.ThemonitorcanthencallaCentral
computerandenergizeanalarmcontactifaparameterexceedsalevel.FrontpanelLEDs
indicatescanand
alarmstatus,andalarmeventsarestoredinmemoryforfutureanalysis.
1.2. Discharge Mode
Ifadischargeisdetected,thesystemgoesintoadataloggingmodeandstoresbatteryvoltagesanddischarge
currentintoadischargereco rd.
1.3. Resistance Test Mode
Abatteryresistancetestmaybeperformedatuser‐setintervals.Thetestissimilartothatperformedbythe
AlbérCellcorder.OnanMPM‐100,uptoeightintertierscanbeconfiguredforthismeasurement.
1.4. Alarm Features
ThemonitormaybesettoautomaticallycalltheCentralcomputertoreportanalarmconditionwhen
detected.Youcanprogramhighandlowalarmlevelsonallvoltageandtemperatureparameters,andahigh
alarmlevelforresistance.Whenanyparametergoesoutsidethenormalrange,themonitorstoresthe
event
inmemory,theAlarmLEDlightsup,andanalarmrelaywithaFormCcontactenergizes.Thealarmsmaybe
setforlatchingornonlatching.
