Setting Up the SQL Database
6-7
6.8. Running the BMDM as a Service
Running the BMDM as a service lets the program monitor and poll in the background when
the Windows user logs off the computer. This prevents having to leave a Windows user
logged in while the unattended computer is running the BMDM program. To start the service,
on the Windows toolbar, click Start|Programs|Alber|MPM Manager|ServiceManager.exe. (It
doesn't matter if the BMDM program is running or not.) The BMDM Service Manager dialog
box appears.
At the "Check application termination every n minute" field, select how frequently the
service checks for program restart; the default value is 1 minute. In the Current Service Status
area, select Automatic from the Startup Type drop-down menu. At Change Status, click the
Start button to start the service. Be sure to click the check box "Don’t show this window
again" at SQL server login. Otherwise, the program will wait for user input at startup when
attempting to start.
Figure 27. BMDM Service Manager
A user may log off the computer with the BMDM program running. To log off, on the
Windows toolbar, click Start|Shut Down|Log Off UserName. (These selections depend on the
version of Windows being used.) With the user logged off, the BMDM will continue
monitoring and polling. If the program is not running, it will automatically start at full screen
within the time specified.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not confuse running the BMDM program as a service with
defining the computer as a Service computer. The two are unrelated.
6.9. Starting MSDE
If using the MSDE SQL database, make certain MSDE is started. Double-click the MSSQL
Server icon in the bottom Windows toolbar. On the SQL Server Service Manager dialog box,
click Start/Continue to start the service.
