Setting Up the SQL Database
6-1
6. Setting Up the SQL Database
After installing the BMDM SQL program, complete this chapter. The BMDM program does not
automatically back up SQL databases. The system administrator must ensure regular backups are
made. Refer to Automatic and Manual Backup. If you want to assign a workstation name to the
computer, you must have installed as a Local or Service computer. See the sections in this chapter
about running the BMDM and MSDE as a service.
6.1. Selecting an SQL Database
String Status > File|Open|SQL-DB
The first time the BMDM runs, it uses the Microsoft Access database. Although you may use
Access on a server, SQL offers the advantage of letting multiple users and workstations use
one database at the same time. In addition, the workstation does not display or poll irrelevant
strings.
Figure 20. SQL Server Login
To change from Access to SQL, select File|Open|SQL-DB. At the SQL Server Login dialog
box, log in to an existing SQL database or create a new database as follows. (The default user
name is SA. The default password is alber. Optionally, click the Use Windows
Authentication check box to use the user name and password logged in to the computer.
6.2. Log In to an Existing SQL Database
String Status > File|Open|SQL-DB
To log in to an SQL database, at the SQL Server Login box, select a database from the
drop-down SQL Connection list, then click Login. (To open the SQL Server Login box,
select File|Open|SQL-DB.) At the Battery Monitor Login User box, type the user name and
password, then click OK. String Status displays details for the database.
Note When changing between an SQL and Access database, you must restart the BMDM
program.
