Kit ACB for Scroll Compressors
1. Assurethatthereisnopressureinthecompressorcrankcaseandun-
screwthethreadedttingattachingthesightglasstothecompressor.
Takenoteoftheoriginaloillevelsinceoilmaybelostwhenthesight
glassisremoved.Tipthecompressortoavoidoillossifpossible.
2. Reusetheoriginalsealbetweenthethreadedadapterandcompres-
sor.Withthethreeholeangeringinstalledontheadapter,screwthe
adapterintothecompressorandtorqueto18-22ft.-lbs.Takecarenot
toscratchtheO-ringsealsurfaceoftheadapter.
3. UsingtheO-ringandboltsprovided,installthecontrolunittothe
adapterange.Thetopofthecontrolunitmustbeperfectlyhorizontal
withtheoilinletttingtotheleft.Torquetheboltsto120in.-lbs.
4. Connecttheoilsupplylinetothe¼inchmalearetting.Acleanable
strainerisincorporatedintothetting.
5. MakewiringconnectionsinaccordancewithFigure1.
Important: The screw clamp style connector plugs used for the
power supply and solenoid coil must be unplugged from the cir-
cuit board to gain access to the wire clamp screws. Use a small
screwdriver to pry them outward.
6. Assurethereisproperoillevelinthecrankcasebeforerestartingthe
compressor.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIELD CHANGEOUT OF
OMA TO OMB OIL CONTROL
Thisinstructionhasbeendevelopedtominimizedowntimebased
uponactualeldexperience.Readthroughtheentireinstructionbefore
proceedingwiththechange-out.
Tools Recommended:7/16"nutdriver;7/16"open-endwrench;
adjustablewrench;smallslottedscrewdriver;wirestripper;manifold
gaugeset;refrigerationvalvewrench(Additionalitemswhichmaybe
requireddependingonapplication:1'of¼"refrigerantgradecopper
tubing.2–¼"brassarenuts;aringtool;3/8"maleareby¼"female
areadapter;3-electricalwirenuts).
1. Disconnectallelectricalpowertothecompressor.
2. Safelyconnectgaugebarhosesinthefollowingsequence:discharge
linetobackseatportofanadjacentcompressorservicevalve;common
linetooilpressureportoncrankcaseofcompressoronwhichcontrol
istobechanged;suctionlinetosuctionmanifoldoncompressorrack.
(Manifoldvalvesshouldbeclosed.)
3. Closedischarge,suction,andoilfeedservicevalvesoncompressor.
4. Openthegaugemanifolddischargehandwheeltopressurizethe
crankcasetodischargepressure.(Important: Do not exceed
allowable pressure limits set by the compressor manufacturer
for the crankcase.)
5. Afterpressurizingthecrankcasetoasafepressure,closemanifold
gagedischargewheel.
6. Openthegagemanifoldsuctionwheeltoallowthehighpressureinthe
crankcasetometertheoilintothesuctionmanifold.
7. Aftertheoilisbelowthesightglassonthecompressorcrankcase,
closethesuctionhandwheelandsafelyreclaimtheremainingrefriger-
antpressureinthecrankcase.
8. Afterallthepressureisdepletedinthecrankcase,removetheexisting
oilcontrolasfollows:
A. Disconnecttheelectricalleadsatthecontrolandlabeleachifwire
colorcodeschange.
B. Removeexibleconduit(ifused)atthejunctionbox.
C.Disconnecttheoilsupplyline.Note:Anewonemayneedtobefab-
ricated,oranadapterrequired,ifreplacinganOMAwithanOMB.
D.Removethethreeangemountingboltswhichholdthecontrolto
theadapterandremoveexistingcontrol.
9. InstallsuppliedO-ringintheO-ringgrooveofthenewcontrol.Remove
"knockout"fromthejunctionboxofthenewcontrol.Onscrollcompres-
sors,installinjectiontubeperdiagram–notethatitinstallsataslight
angle(seediagram).Threadtubeinhandtightandtighten½turnwitha
wrenchorpliers.
10.Withthesolenoidoff,mountandlevelthenewcontroltoexistingadapt-
erusing(3)1/4"x20TPIx1"bolts.IfreplacinganOMAwithanOMB,
turntheringedadapterangeapproximately¼turncounterclockwise
toprovidethecorrectholealignmentfortheOMBsincetheholesare
notequidistant.(Important:Someolderrackshaveaangewithan
O-ringgroovemachinedinit.Replacewiththecorrectadapterforthe
application–seecatalog.)BesurethattheO-ringhasnotfallenoutof
thegrooveandtightenevenlyto40in.-lbs.
11.Reconnecttheoilinletline.
12.Withpressurevalvedoff,removegaugemanifold,capports,open
servicevalvesandcheckforleaks.
13.Reconnectelectricalpowerfollowingcolorcodeandinstallsolenoidcoil
andpowerplugs.Note:Donotenergizesolenoidcoilbeforereplacing
on enclosing tube.
14.CheckthatthegreenLEDison.YellowLEDshouldcomeonafter
about 10 seconds.
15.Checkthatthesolenoidisenergizedandthatthecontrolislling.
(Note:Ifcrankcasedoesnotllin2minutes,theredLEDshouldcome
on.)(Solenoidremainsontocontinuelling.)Ifthealarmtripsbefore
thecrankcaseislledto½sightglass,removeOMBpowerplugfor
severalsecondsandreinstalltoresetalarm.Compressorshouldthen
llto½sightglassandyellow"ll"LEDshouldgoout.
16.Restartthecompressorusingthereverseproceduretoshuttingit
down.
17.Recheckforleaksandrepairifnecessary.
Important: Injection tube is not used on reciprocating compressors
where the control is mounted directly to the crankcase.
LED Codes When Lit:
Green –24VACpowerissuppliedtoOMB.
Yellow –Floatsensordeterminedthattheoillevelhasbeenbelow
½sightglassforover10seconds.Fillsolenoidhasbeenactivated.
Red (continually lit)–Oillevelhasremainedbelow½sightglassfor
overtwominutesafterllsolenoidhasbeenactivated.Alarmhasbeen
activatedandcompressorispreventedfromoperatinguntiloillevel
reaches½sightglasswhenalarmautomaticallyresets.
Red (ashing)–Therehavebeenveautoresetalarmsregisteredwithin
a30minuteperiod.Alarmcircuitisnowlockedonandcompressorlocked
off.Fillsolenoidisde-energized.Alarmremainslockedinuntil24VAC
powerleadismanuallyunpluggedandagainpluggedbackintodevice.
Note: OMB units used on scroll compressors require the use of an
injection tube this tube is shipped wired to the unit but not installed.
It is to be screwed into the rear of the unit, and tightened hand tight
plus one half turn. When properly installed, the tube will be at a slight
angle relative to the OMB. See gure 2 below.
