Best practices for creating passwords
This section provides best information about creating passwords.
Personal Identifiable Information
Do not use Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in your password such as:
Your name
Your user name
Your birthday
Names of pets
Names of your children
The name of your alma mater
Keywords associated with your hobbies
Using words from the dictionary
Do not use any word that can be found in the dictionary as your full password.
Using strong passwords
Always use strong passwords when creating passwords. Strong passwords include:
At least eight characters
Special characters such as a percent sign or ampersand
Non-alphabetic characters
Upper and lower case characters
Use different passwords for user accounts
Always use a different password for each user account.
Changing your password
Recommendations for changing your password:
Change your most critical passwords on a regular basis.
Change your passwords at least every 6 months.
Avoid using variations of a previous password.
