Glossary of Terms

Active Alert:

Used to describe the status of an active PariRange Contact Tracing Tag when it is within 6 feet

of another active Tag.

Bootloader:

A program that loads an operating system when a computer is turned on.

Contact Tracing:

Used by health departments to prevent the spread of infectious disease. This is done by

identifying those who have an infectious disease and identifying their contacts to interrupt the

disease transmission.

EEA:

European Economic Area. European Union states that are member states of the European Free

Trade Association.

FCC:

Federal Communications Commission. An independent federal regulatory agency that reports to

Congress and regulates matters related to interstate and international communications by radio,

television, wire, satellite, and cable.

Firmware:

A permanent software program or set of instructions programed on a hardware device to

provide necessary instructions for how the device communicates.

LED:

Light-emitting diode. A semiconductor diode that emits light when a current conducts through it.

Peer-to-Peer Communication:

A communication in which both sides have equal responsibility for initiating, maintaining, and

terminating the session.

Qi Charger:

A charger that complies with the Qi open interface standard. The standard defines the wireless

power transfer for inductive charging.

Rechargeable Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) Battery:

A rechargeable battery that uses lithium ions as the primary component of its electrolyte.
