Installing the ZENworks Adaptive Agent
Any device you want to manage through ZENworks must deploy the ZENworks Adaptive Agent. The
Adaptive Agent distributes software, enforces policies, collects software and hardware inventory,
monitors software usage and license compliance, and performs all other ZENworks management
tasks on the managed device.
For detailed information on deploying the ZENworks Adaptive Agent, see “ZENworks Adaptive Agent
Deployment” in the ZENworks 11 Discovery, Deployment, and Retirement Reference.
IMPORTANT: Before you install ZENworks Adaptive Agent on a device, you must consider the
following:
If you plan to install the ZENworks Adaptive Agent on a device that has ZENworks 7 Desktop
Management Agent or the ZENworks Endpoint Security Management 4.1 Client already
installed, you might encounter coexistence issues. For more information on the coexistence
issues, see Coexistence with Other ZENworks Products before continuing with “ZENworks
Adaptive Agent Deployment” in the ZENworks 11 Discovery, Deployment, and Retirement
Reference
During the ZENworks Adaptive Agent installation, you must ensure that no other installation
process is in progress on the device. If any installation process is in progress when ZENworks
Adaptive agent is being installed on the device, then one of the following might occur:
The ZENworks agent installation on the device might fail. For example, if the Windows
Update is active on a device on which ZENworks agent installation is in progress, then
some updates might get simultaneously installed on the device resulting in the ZENworks
agent installation failure.
The ZENworks agent installation might pause until the other installation process is
completed.
If you are installing or updating ZCM on a Windows XP device which has HP Drive Guard
installed, then ensure that HP Drive Guard version must be 1.20.5.1 and above.
Devices running the Firmware interface as UEFI, the FDE install fails. However, agent
install completes. For such devices, FDE component must be uninstalled, otherwise every
agent refresh would cause an FDE install failure.
