Stereo Enhancer
Even when there is nothing to compress from time to time, your produc-
tions can still benet from the alpha compressor, as the combination of
the MS matrix and the Audio lters makes a very nice tool to inuence
the stereo spectrum.
For this purpose the compressor is switched into MS mode and the Au-
dio lter of the side channel adds 1,0-1,5dB to a center frequency of ap-
prox. 1kHz. The Gain controllers of both channels are at 0dB.
These settings cause a boost of all frequencies above 1kHz in the side
channel, which intensies the spatial perception as the room reections
become more distinct. The lower frequencies, however, are not of that
great importance for spatial perception.
Of course simply increasing the level in the side channel can be used
to achieve a (broadband) change in the stereo spectrum, too, but this
variant oers much more dierentiated options because it is frequency-
dependent.
