196 PL 3120/PL 3150/PL 3170 Power Line Smart Transceiver Data Boo
k
A four (or more) outlet power strip which does not include surge protection, neon lights, or noise filtering
circuitry.
One personal computer configured with a PL-20 network interface (such as PCLTA-20/SMX network interface
with PLM-22 SMX transceiver, or U20 USB network interface).
Test Equipment to be Constructed
The following additional equipment will need to be constructed for testing:
“5Ω Load” Circuit
This circuit, as shown in Figure 7.2, should be built in a suitable enclosure and provided with an appropriate male AC
mains plug. Note that the maximum working voltage of the 1MΩ resistor should be greater than or equal to the peak line
voltage.

“7Ω Load” Circuit
This circuit, as shown in Figure 7.3, should be built in a suitable enclosure and provided with an appropriate male AC
mains plug. Note that the maximum working voltage of the 1MΩ resistor should be greater than or equal to the peak line
voltage.
