Figure 1.1 shows the CENELEC frequency restrictions that are mandatory in EU countries and are observed in many
non-EU countries as well. FCC, Industry Canada and the Japan MPT regulations are less strict than the CENELEC
requirements. The frequency allocations for these countries are summarized in Figure 1.3.

Integrated, Low-Cost and Small Form Factor Design
A small number of inexpensive external components are required to create a complete PL Smart Transceiver-based
device. Figure 1.4 illustrates the block diagram of a PL Smart Transceiver based device. Acomprehensive Development
Support Kit (DSK) is available from Echelon that includes sample PL Smart Transceivers, schematics, printed circuit
board (PCB) layouts, bills of materials, and technology evaluation hardware with sample application code that
customers can use to implement this interface circuitry.
