Thechartsabovearebasedupontheoreticalworst‐caseconditions.Actualtestresultsshow
30%to50%betterpowerdissipation.
Todetermineifyourapplication needs aheatsink:
1. Allowmaximumheatsinktemperaturetobe80°Corless(shuntdownis 6°Cto8°C
higher).
2. DeterminetheambientoperatingtemperatureoftheCymbalas≤40°C.
3. Calculatetheallowabletemperatureincreaseasfollows:
Foranambienttemperatureof40°C,ΔT=80°C–40°C=40°C
4. Usethecharttofindtheactualdissipationpowerofthedrive.Followthevoltagecurveto
thedesiredoutputcurrentandthenfindthedissipatedpower.
5. Ifthedissipatedpowerisbelow12WtheCymbalnee dsnoadditionalcooling.
Note: Thechartaboveshowsthatnoheatsinkisneededwhentheheatsinktemperatureis
80°C,ambienttemperatureis40°Candheatdissipatedis4W.
