3.6. DC Power Supply
TheDCpowersupplycanbeatanyvoltageintherangedefinedinthetechnicalspecifications
(Chapter5ofthisguide).Thesupplysourcemustcomplywiththesafetyaspectsofthe
relevantrequirements,inaccordancewiththemostrecentversionofthestandardEN60950or
equivalentLowVoltageDirectiveStandard,allaccordingtotheapplicableover‐voltage
category.IfthepowersourcetothepowersupplyistheACline (throughanisolatedora non‐
isolatedtransformer),safetymarginsmustbeconsidered,inordertoavoidactivatingthe
undervoltage/overvoltageprotectionduetolinevariationsand/orvoltagedropunderload.
Inadditiontotheabove,thetransformermustcomplywiththesafetyaspectsoftherelevant
requirementsinaccordancewiththemostrecentversionofthestandardEN60742(Isolating
andSafetyIsolatingTransformers).Thenominal DCbusvoltageshouldbeinthefollowing
range:
1.2V

Thetransformerpowershouldbecalculatedsuchthatitwillbeabletodeliverpowertothe
amplifier(includingpeakpower)withoutsignificantvoltagedrops.
Thepowersupplyshouldbelocatedascloseaspossibletotheamplifier.Whiledrivinghigh‐
inertialoads,thepowersupplymustbeequippedwithashuntregulator;otherwise,the
amplifierwillbedisabledwheneverthecapacitorsarechargedabovethemaximumvoltage,
duringmotorbreakdown.
3.6.1. PoweringUp
AftertheCymbalisconnectedtoitsdevices,theCymbalisreadytobepoweredup.
Caution:Beforeapplyingpower,ensurethattheDCsupplyiswithinthespecifiedrange
andthattheproperplus‐minusconnectionsareinorder.
3.6.2. InitializingtheSystem
AftertheCymbalhasbeenconnectedandmounted,thesystemmustbesetupandinitialized.
3.7. Heat Dissipation
ForfullpoweroutputcapabilitytheCymbalisdesignedtobemountedonanexternalheatsink.
Itishighlyrecommendedthatthe“Wall”onwhichtheCymbalismountedwillhaveheat
dissipationcapabilities.TheCymbalat“freeairconvection”(withoutanadditionalheatsink)
candissipatearound12Wfor40°Cambienttemperatureandnotexceeding80°Conthe
heatsink.
When“FreeAirConvection”issufficientfortheapplicationitisrecommendedtoleave
approximately10mmofspacebetweentheCymbal'sheatsinkandanyotherassembly.
