Introduction
The 4260 is the descendent of a prestigious family of
professional speakers. Its story begins in the 1960s, after
a request from the French National Radio and Television
Service (the R.T.F. which later became the O.R.T.F.) for a
sound component that would be a future standard for
sound engineers. Three years of joint effort by the Elipson
and R.T.F. teams produced a model called “La Religieuse”
that was as acoustically ambitious as it was esthetically
innovative. This was the brand’s rst multi-way speaker.
This project then inspired the sphere 402 (40 cm diameter
2-way sphere). This speaker became legendary among
sound engineers and musicians (particularly in concrete
and nascent acousmatic music). The 402 then became
associated with a C50 subwoofer to become the 4050, a
must for radio and television studios in the 1970s and 1980s.
The 5060, an exceptional model designed within this line,
became legendary in a memorable battle against an
organ in studio 102 of Radio France.
The 4260 is the fruit of this glorious past. It is the culmination
of several years of research, and it is the worthy successor
to these legendary models. It goes back to the original
name, with 42 for the 42 cm diameter sphere and 60 for its
60 cm wide woofer. While our spirit in search of perfection
has remained unchanged, technology has evolved since
the 4240, 4050. The engineers who were inspired by this
rich heritage have continued to innovate to come ever
closer to perfection. The sphere is a return to the original
construction, with an internal resonator and an acoustic
phasing per physical alignment (Patented by Elipson). The
staff (reinforced plaster) has given way to reinforced resin
which features a controlled intrinsic inertia. The medium
register loudspeaker is manufactured according to the list
of specications by the French company PHL Audio, which
sets the standard in professional sound.
As for the high register, we called upon the Danish
company Scan-Speak, which is famous for this type
of application. The woofer for the reproduction of the
low register is adapted to today’s demands, with an
extended frequency response at an exceptional level.
The strong section bass-reex charge, to limit airow noise,
replaces the symmetrical charge, which eats up too
much power. The woofer case uses an internal structure
specially designed to keep it rigid (AVS technology for Anti-
Vibration System). This translates to a transitory response
without error and with reduced distortion. The 38 cm is also
made by PHL company according to specications. The
4260 is a speaker of uncompromising technical design for
unforgettable musicaldelity.
Today in your living room or in your recording studio, two
years of research culminate with the same philosophy as
always: to give real life to the music, and to make speakers
that serve the needs of musicians and the needs of every
music lover!
