user documentation set.
Configure 802.1x authentication
When 802.1x authentication is enabled, the Fiery Server uses one of the two EAP methods to seek authentication
from an 802.1x authentication server (such as a RADIUS server), often through an intermediate access point (an
authenticator).
Important: There are two versions of Configure and they are specific to the Fiery Server you are connected to. This
is a combined procedure that describes what to do when connected to a Fiery Server with FS100/100Pro or earlier,
and notes about what to do with FS150/150 Pro or later. If you are not sure which version of Configure you are
using, see Which version of Configure am I using? on page 27.
The Fiery Server seeks this authentication at startup time, or when the Ethernet cable is disconnected and
reconnected. If the Fiery Server is successfully authenticated, it is allowed access to the network.
1
From Configure, choose Network > Port > 802.1x Authentication.
Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, you can find the settings mentioned in this
procedure in Network > 802.1x Authentication instead.
2
If you want the Fiery Server to request authentication over 802.1x when connecting to the network, select Enable
802.1x Authentication.
3
From the Select EAP Type menu, select the type of EAP.
4
Enter the user name and password.
This is what the Fiery Server uses to request authentication from an 802.1x authentication server.
5
If you chose PEAP-MSCHAPv2 as the EAP type and want the Fiery Server to use a trusted root certificate when
communicating with the authentication server, select Validate Server Certificate.
If you want the Fiery Server to validate the server certificate, place the certificate in the list of trusted certificates
of the Fiery Server. See Manage certificates on page 64.
6
Save or apply your changes.
Configure LDAP
If your Fiery Server supports this option, you can configure the Fiery Server to communicate with corporate
information servers at your organization by means of the LDAP protocol.
Important: There are two versions of Configure and they are specific to the Fiery Server you are connected to. This
is a combined procedure that describes what to do when connected to a Fiery Server with FS100/100Pro or earlier,
and notes about what to do with FS150/150 Pro or later. If you are not sure which version of Configure you are
using, see Which version of Configure am I using? on page 27.
