Export soft proof to PDF
For a color job, you can save a soft proof in PDF format for viewing at a different time or location. When you export
to PDF, you can control image quality and save selected pages. You cannot edit or print soft proof PDF files, but you
can add annotations.
Note: The soft proof does not display the effects of calibration, which can affect color.
When you export your soft proof to a PDF, you can set the image quality.
•
JPEG2000 compression downsamples the image to one-half of the printer resolution and applies JPEG2000
compression. The compression should not affect the quality of the images and color. Text using standard font
sizes and color densities should remain very legible. However, some fonts and line art might not appear as
smooth as they are in printed pages.
•
Highest image quality creates a full-resolution image that has the same resolution as the printer and lossless
compression. The resulting file can be much larger than the compressed file. Use this setting only if the
JPEG2000 compression setting does not produce an acceptable result.
You can set the resolution of the soft proof to a different value than the resolution of the job. The available settings
are the same as those that are available for the job.
1
Click File > Export > Soft Proof PDF.
2
Specify the page range. Use commas to separate page numbers or page ranges.
3
Specify the soft proof PDF options:
• Select Save one PDF containing selected pages or Save each page as a separate PDF.
• Select Highest image quality or Use JPEG2000 compression.
4
If available, select the desired resolution.
